Mayra takes the concept “pay it forward” literally. In college, she had a supportive academic advisor that helped her succeed, and now she wants to have that same impact on the students she advises at Saint Leo. Mayra feels strongly about education, and that it shouldn’t come easy. She says that students should expect to find their courses at Saint Leo to be quite challenging. Having gone through college as a nontraditional student (she had her son while she was in college), she feels that if she can earn her degree, anyone can. The word “no” is generally absent from Mayra’s vocabulary. She tries her best to make things happen for her students to keep them on track and successful. If Mayra had to describe herself in three words, she’d say she was positive, fashionable, colorful…and she’d add a fourth: caring.
